NYCWFF: Meatball Madness

I was lucky enough to be invited to Meatball Madness at 82 Mercer for the New York Wine and Food Festival Thursday and was honestly overwhelmed. Between the celeb sightings (Giada de Laurentiis, Guy Fieri, Alex Guarnaschelli), photo opps (Bing, Buitoni) and gigantic wine bottles (see below) I didn’t even manage 10 meatballs. What a disappointment. Here are my notes –

Catelli’s Meatball with DC’s Organic Tomato Sauce and Side of the Moment

Kind of plain. The side of chips were a little weird. A hint of spicy. Next.

Ed’s Lobster Bar Lobster Meatball and Ed’s Caesar Salad

One of my most anticipated balls. Texture was a little weird. I would prefer a lobster roll. Side of salad was a horrible idea. Way too soggy.

Felidia Trieste-Style Sauerkraut and Bean Soup with Pork Meatballs

Server added a dollup of olive oil. Still torn. One bite was perfect, the next too oily. Overall, really tasty ball.

Le Caprice Pork and Scamorza Meatball with Spicy Cherry Pepper Salsa and Skewered Antipasti

YUM. Spicy. Weird plum(?) on the side. Made someone else eat it and their facial expression was not favorable. Loved the meatball, though.

Tertulia Lamb Meatballs with Red Sauce and Goat Cheese Curd Cucumber Salad

FAVORITE. Delicious. Tasted like a fried lamb with tzatziki. Must visit this restaurant.

Rocca delle Macie Are you for real? This wine bottle is the size of my torso.

Sponsor highlights:

Bing (who seemed to sponsor the entire festival) had an AMAZING photo booth. The booth host carried an iPad with 3 pre-loaded personalities we could choose from to guide us through our experience. We chose Fabreze who told us when to flex our muscles and blow kisses as a fan positioned on the floor blew our hair back for about 10 pictures. Hilarious experience.

Buitoni had a large display. All I noticed was the Vespa which my co-workers and I almost tipped trying to squeeze 4 people on the back for a picture.

What delicious balls did I miss?
